Refresh. Cleanse. Revive.

Cymbopogon citratus is a citral-rich warming herb traditionally used to stimulate digestive fire, encourage healthy circulation, and restore a sense of clean, refreshed vitality from the inside out.

Why Lemongrass?

  • Digestive mover: Bitter principles and volatile oils stimulate digestive fire, easing gas, bloating, and the heavy feeling after a dense meal while encouraging efficient nutrient absorption.
  • Systemic cleanser: A time-honoured tonic for supporting natural detoxification and fluid movement — moving stagnant energy and leaving you feeling light, clear, and energised.
  • Aromatic vitality: High volatile oil content (citral and myrcene) provides an uplifting, warming sensation that wakes up the system – a sharp, refreshing reset for physical comfort and mental clarity.
  • Traditional resilience: Phenolic compounds and flavonoids support a healthy, balanced inflammation response and seasonal immune resilience for daily systemic balance.

Traditional Benefits

Cymbopogon citratus is a botanical staple of traditional wellness. Classified in traditional herbalism as "warming, aromatic, and drying," it is deeply respected for its specific affinity for the digestive and circulatory systems. It is often regarded as a "purifier," helping to move stagnant energy and promote a sense of openness and flow.

Core Bioactive Markers:

  • Volatile Oils (Citral & Myrcene): These are the heart of the Lemongrass. They provide the herb’s distinct, lemony fragrance and are the primary agents responsible for its traditional reputation as a digestive aid and circulatory stimulant.
  • Flavonoids: Provide foundational antioxidant support and contribute to the plant's traditional use in maintaining systemic health and resilience against environmental stressors.
  • Bitter Principles: These compounds act as a gentle stimulant for the digestive tract, encouraging healthy enzymatic flow and efficient processing.
  • Phenolic Compounds: Support a healthy, balanced inflammation response, contributing to the herb's traditional role as a systemic tonic.

Key Physiological Properties:

  • Digestive Catalyst: Traditionally used to reduce bloating, ease discomfort, and support efficient nutrient absorption.
  • Circulatory Mover: Acts to encourage healthy blood flow, leaving you feeling warm, active, and invigorated.
  • Systemic Refresh: Its warming, aromatic nature helps to resolve "cold-damp" stagnation, fostering a sense of crisp internal clarity.
  • Metabolic Support: By supporting the digestive fire, it helps the body maintain a steady and consistent level of energy throughout the day.

How To Use

  • Infusion: Because the dried stalks are fibrous, they benefit from a slightly longer steep than leaf teas.  Pour 1 cup of boiling water over 1 teaspoon of herb. Infuse for 10-15min. Strain and drink three to four times per day.
  • The Ritual: Best used as an "Afternoon Reset Ritual." When your energy dips, a cup of hot Lemongrass tea acts as a vibrant reminder to breathe, release the tension of the morning, and infuse your next few hours with clear, crisp intention.

Safety & Precautions

• Do not use if pregnant or lactating.
• Generally safe for most people when consumed in moderate, culinary, or tea amounts.
• As with all herbs, practice moderation; it is intended as a gentle tonic, not for excessive daily saturation.
• Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
• Keep out of reach of children.
FAQs

Is it just for cooking?

While it is a star in many culinary traditions, it is also a powerful traditional medicine used for its specific soothing effects on the digestive and nervous systems.

Does it have caffeine?

No, Lemongrass is naturally caffeine-free, which makes it a perfect, refreshing drink for any time of the day.

Can I use this for cold and flu?

It is traditionally used to support the body’s natural response to seasonal shifts, often blended with Ginger or Tulsi for a "powerhouse" warming infusion.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HERBS

infusion

Infusion (The Gentle Extract)

Best For: Flowers, leaves, and aerial parts.
Method: Steeping in hot (not boiling) water.
Goal: Preserves delicate oils and nutrients.
Feel: Mild, aromatic, and nourishing.
Think of this as an elevated tea ritual. Because leaves and flowers are delicate, boiling them can damage their beneficial essential oils and volatile compounds.

The Method:
  • Pour hot (approx. 85°C–90°C) water over your herbs.
  • The Time: Cover and steep for 5–15 minutes. Covering is key—it prevents the plant's aromatic oils from escaping with the steam.
  • Best For: Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and delicate floral blends.

Cold infusions

Herbs best suited for cold infusions are those high in mucilage (like marshmallow root) or those with delicate, volatile oils (like peppermint and lemon balm). Steeping these in cold water overnight extracts their maximum benefits and flavours while preventing bitterness and preserving sensitive phytonutrients.

How to Prepare

Prep: Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of dried herb (or 2 tablespoons fresh) per 1 cup of cold, filtered water.
Steep: Combine in a glass jar, cover tightly, and leave at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours (overnight is ideal).
Strain: Strain out the herbs thoroughly before drinking, warm water can be added to the drink if warm liquids is your preference. Do not heat in microwave.

decoction

Decoction (The Deep Extract)

Best For: Roots, bark, seeds, and woody stems.
Method: Simmering in water over heat.
Goal: Softens tough fibres to release compounds.
Feel: Concentrated, earthy, and potent.

How to Prepare (The "Simmer")

This is a more intensive process for tougher materials. Roots, barks, and woody seeds are "locked" behind dense cell walls; a simple soak isn't enough to get the goodness out.
The Method: Place your herbs in a pot with cold water. Slowly bring it to a gentle boil, then lower the heat and simmer.
The Time: Simmer for 15–20 minutes. Keep the lid on to maintain the potency.
Best For: Yellow Dock, White Willow Bark, Wild Yam, and woody roots or dense seeds.

Herbal Poultice

  • Place the recommended amount of dried herbs into a bowl.
  • Add just enough boiling water to moisten the herbs, creating a thick paste.
  • Allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortably warm (not hot enough to burn the skin).
  • Spread the herbs evenly onto a clean piece of muslin, gauze, or cotton cloth and fold the cloth over to enclose the herbs.
  • Apply the warm poultice directly to the affected area for 15–30 minutes, or as needed.
  • Remove the poultice and discard the used herbs. Prepare a fresh poultice for each application.

Helpful Tips
Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or infected areas unless advised by a qualified healthcare practitioner. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
