Adapt. Restore. Thrive.

Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha Root), the world’s most revered adaptogen, has been used for millennia in Ayurvedic tradition to help the body adapt to stress, restore depleted energy, and rebuild deep systemic resilience from the inside out.

Why Ashwagandha Root?

  • Adrenal Resilience: Supports healthy cortisol levels, helping you remain calm under pressure, recover more fully, and sleep more deeply at night.
  • Nervous System Calm: Withanolides absorbed through the mucosal lining provide a direct and efficient path to nervous system support and tension relief.
  • Full-Spectrum Potency: Whole-cut root preserves the complete profile of active compounds until the moment of brewing, ensuring nothing is lost.
  • Cumulative Tonic: A slow-acting, deeply restorative herb — best used consistently over time for sustained energy, hormonal balance, and stress adaptation.

Traditional Benefits

Withania somnifera is a cornerstone of traditional wellness systems. Often referred to as "Indian Ginseng," its therapeutic value lies in its ability to support Ojas—the traditional concept of life force and systemic vigour.

Core Bioactive Markers:

  • Withanolides: The signature steroidal lactones that grant the root its powerful adaptogenic properties, helping to modulate the body’s response to stress.
  • Alkaloids & Saponins: These compounds work synergistically to support the nervous system, helping to stabilise mood and promote healthy energy cycles.
  • Polyphenols: Provide essential antioxidant protection, guarding cells against the systemic "wear and tear" of chronic stress.

Key Physiological Properties:

  • Adaptogenic Modulation: It helps the body shift out of "fight or flight" mode, promoting a state of calm, focused resilience.
  • Nervous System Tonic: Traditionally used to nourish a depleted nervous system, helping to ease tension and improve sleep quality.
  • Endocrine Support: Assists in maintaining healthy cortisol levels, which is crucial for overall metabolic balance and weight management.
  • Restorative Vitality: Unlike harsh stimulants, Ashwagandha works by nourishing the body at a cellular level, providing a steady, reliable source of strength.

Therapeutic Benefits at a Glance

  • Stress Resilience: Modulates the stress response, reducing the physical impact of daily pressures.
  • Energy & Stamina: Combats physical exhaustion and supports healthy recovery after exertion.
  • Cognitive Focus: Encourages a calm, balanced mind and helps improve mental clarity.
  • Sleep Quality: Traditionally used to soothe the body, facilitating deeper, more restorative rest.
  • Immune Support: Strengthens the body’s overall defence systems for year-round resilience.

How To Use

  • How to Use: Because it is a dense, woody root, it is best prepared as a decoction (simmered) or taken as a powder stirred into warm milk or a milk-alternative. Simmer 1–2 teaspoons of the dried root in 2 cups of water for 15–20 minutes. It has a distinctive, earthy, and mildly bitter-sweet flavour.
  • The Ritual: Best used as a "Restoration Ritual." Drinking Ashwagandha is an act of deliberate self-care. It is a moment to signal to your body that it is safe to "power down," to release the grip of tension, and to nourish your reserves for the long road ahead.

Safety & Precautions

• Do not use if pregnant or lactating.
• Generally safe for most. As it belongs to the Solanaceae (nightshade) family, those with specific sensitivities to nightshades should use it with caution.
• Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
• Keep out of reach of children.
FAQs

How long does it take to work?

Ashwagandha is a traditional "tonic" herb—it is best viewed as a long-term investment. While some feel its grounding effects quickly, its true power in building systemic resilience is best realised through consistent, daily use over weeks and months.

Is it a stimulant?

Not at all. It does not contain caffeine or stimulants. Instead, it works by calming the body, which allows your own natural, healthy energy to surface.

Can I mix this with other herbs?

It is an incredible base. It pairs beautifully with Tulsi (Holy Basil) for a "Stress-Response" blend that is absolutely unmatched for modern, high-pressure living.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HERBS

infusion

Infusion (The Gentle Extract)

Best For: Flowers, leaves, and aerial parts.
Method: Steeping in hot (not boiling) water.
Goal: Preserves delicate oils and nutrients.
Feel: Mild, aromatic, and nourishing.
Think of this as an elevated tea ritual. Because leaves and flowers are delicate, boiling them can damage their beneficial essential oils and volatile compounds.

The Method:
  • Pour hot (approx. 85°C–90°C) water over your herbs.
  • The Time: Cover and steep for 5–15 minutes. Covering is key—it prevents the plant's aromatic oils from escaping with the steam.
  • Best For: Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and delicate floral blends.

Cold infusions

Herbs best suited for cold infusions are those high in mucilage (like marshmallow root) or those with delicate, volatile oils (like peppermint and lemon balm). Steeping these in cold water overnight extracts their maximum benefits and flavours while preventing bitterness and preserving sensitive phytonutrients.

How to Prepare

Prep: Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of dried herb (or 2 tablespoons fresh) per 1 cup of cold, filtered water.
Steep: Combine in a glass jar, cover tightly, and leave at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours (overnight is ideal).
Strain: Strain out the herbs thoroughly before drinking, warm water can be added to the drink if warm liquids is your preference. Do not heat in microwave.

decoction

Decoction (The Deep Extract)

Best For: Roots, bark, seeds, and woody stems.
Method: Simmering in water over heat.
Goal: Softens tough fibres to release compounds.
Feel: Concentrated, earthy, and potent.

How to Prepare (The "Simmer")

This is a more intensive process for tougher materials. Roots, barks, and woody seeds are "locked" behind dense cell walls; a simple soak isn't enough to get the goodness out.
The Method: Place your herbs in a pot with cold water. Slowly bring it to a gentle boil, then lower the heat and simmer.
The Time: Simmer for 15–20 minutes. Keep the lid on to maintain the potency.
Best For: Yellow Dock, White Willow Bark, Wild Yam, and woody roots or dense seeds.

Herbal Poultice

  • Place the recommended amount of dried herbs into a bowl.
  • Add just enough boiling water to moisten the herbs, creating a thick paste.
  • Allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortably warm (not hot enough to burn the skin).
  • Spread the herbs evenly onto a clean piece of muslin, gauze, or cotton cloth and fold the cloth over to enclose the herbs.
  • Apply the warm poultice directly to the affected area for 15–30 minutes, or as needed.
  • Remove the poultice and discard the used herbs. Prepare a fresh poultice for each application.

Helpful Tips
Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or infected areas unless advised by a qualified healthcare practitioner. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
