Earthy. Soothing. Mineral-Rich.

Aspalathus linearis (fermented/red) is wild-harvested exclusively from the Cederberg and traditionally fermented to develop its signature deep colour and rich flavour, concentrating chrysoeriol, orientin, and quercetin for daily digestive, nervous system, and cellular support.

Why Rooibos?

  • Digestive Comfort: Chrysoeriol’s anti-spasmodic action gently relaxes smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract, easing cramps, bloating, and digestive tension.
  • Nervous System Calm: A gentle nervine that quiets the central nervous system without sedation — ideal for winding down at any time of day.
  • Cellular Protection: Orientin, isoorientin, and quercetin scavenge free radicals and support healthy ageing and systemic resilience.
  • Mineral Nourishment: Naturally rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron — caffeine-free and ultra-low in tannins, safe for all ages including infants.

Traditional Benefits

Aspalathus linearis (Rooibos) is a resilient, wild-harvested shrub indigenous exclusively to the Cederberg region of South Africa. In the traditional apothecary, the fermented (red) leaf is classified as an anti-spasmodic, nervine tonic, and antioxidant. Its therapeutic strength lies in its unique flavonoid profile, which supports the body's natural inflammatory response and cellular health.

Core Bioactive Markers:

  • Chrysoeriol: A specific bioactive flavonoid known for its bronchodilator and anti-spasmodic effects, making it highly effective at relieving tension in the digestive and respiratory tracts.
  • Quercetin & Luteolin: Potent antioxidants that modulate the body's inflammatory response and protect cardiovascular health.
  • Orientin & Isoorientin: Flavonoid compounds that act as profound free-radical scavengers, supporting healthy aging and systemic resilience.
  • Essential Minerals: Naturally rich in calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron, providing foundational structural support for the body.

Key Physiological Properties:

  • Anti-spasmodic: Gently relaxes smooth muscle tissue, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract.
  • Nervine: Calms the central nervous system without acting as a sedative.
  • Antioxidant: Protects tissues from oxidative stress and environmental toxins.
  • Hypoallergenic: Completely caffeine-free and ultra-low in tannins, ensuring it does not interfere with iron absorption or irritate sensitive systems.

How To Use

  • How to Use: To extract the full spectrum of minerals and deep flavor, prepare as a long-steeped infusion. Steep for at least 5–10 minutes in boiling water. Because it is low in tannins, it will never become bitter, no matter how long it steeps.
  • The Ritual: Best utilized as an "Anchoring Ritual." Drinking a warm cup of red Rooibos is an act of profound grounding. It is a moment to connect with the deep, sun-baked earth of its origin, breathing in the sweet, woody aroma, and allowing your body to soften into a state of total ease.

Safety & Precautions

• Exceptionally safe for daily use by all ages, including infants, children, and those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
• Keep out of reach of children.
FAQs

What is the difference between Red and Green Rooibos?

It is the exact same plant! Red Rooibos is traditionally fermented, which develops its sweet, earthy flavour and deep colour. Green Rooibos is unfermented, preserving a slightly different antioxidant profile (like Aspalathin) and a lighter, grassier taste.

Will it keep me awake at night?

Not at all. It is 100% naturally caffeine-free and actually acts as a mild nervine to help relax your body, making it the perfect bedtime tonic.

Can I mix this with other herbs?

It is the ultimate blending base. Mix it with Orange Sweet Peel and Cinnamon for a warming, digestive "Chai" or with Honeybush for a naturally sweet, South African powerhouse blend.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HERBS

infusion

Infusion (The Gentle Extract)

Best For: Flowers, leaves, and aerial parts.
Method: Steeping in hot (not boiling) water.
Goal: Preserves delicate oils and nutrients.
Feel: Mild, aromatic, and nourishing.
Think of this as an elevated tea ritual. Because leaves and flowers are delicate, boiling them can damage their beneficial essential oils and volatile compounds.

The Method:
  • Pour hot (approx. 85°C–90°C) water over your herbs.
  • The Time: Cover and steep for 5–15 minutes. Covering is key—it prevents the plant's aromatic oils from escaping with the steam.
  • Best For: Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and delicate floral blends.

Cold infusions

Herbs best suited for cold infusions are those high in mucilage (like marshmallow root) or those with delicate, volatile oils (like peppermint and lemon balm). Steeping these in cold water overnight extracts their maximum benefits and flavours while preventing bitterness and preserving sensitive phytonutrients.

How to Prepare

Prep: Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of dried herb (or 2 tablespoons fresh) per 1 cup of cold, filtered water.
Steep: Combine in a glass jar, cover tightly, and leave at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours (overnight is ideal).
Strain: Strain out the herbs thoroughly before drinking, warm water can be added to the drink if warm liquids is your preference. Do not heat in microwave.

decoction

Decoction (The Deep Extract)

Best For: Roots, bark, seeds, and woody stems.
Method: Simmering in water over heat.
Goal: Softens tough fibres to release compounds.
Feel: Concentrated, earthy, and potent.

How to Prepare (The "Simmer")

This is a more intensive process for tougher materials. Roots, barks, and woody seeds are "locked" behind dense cell walls; a simple soak isn't enough to get the goodness out.
The Method: Place your herbs in a pot with cold water. Slowly bring it to a gentle boil, then lower the heat and simmer.
The Time: Simmer for 15–20 minutes. Keep the lid on to maintain the potency.
Best For: Yellow Dock, White Willow Bark, Wild Yam, and woody roots or dense seeds.

Herbal Poultice

  • Place the recommended amount of dried herbs into a bowl.
  • Add just enough boiling water to moisten the herbs, creating a thick paste.
  • Allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortably warm (not hot enough to burn the skin).
  • Spread the herbs evenly onto a clean piece of muslin, gauze, or cotton cloth and fold the cloth over to enclose the herbs.
  • Apply the warm poultice directly to the affected area for 15–30 minutes, or as needed.
  • Remove the poultice and discard the used herbs. Prepare a fresh poultice for each application.

Helpful Tips
Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or infected areas unless advised by a qualified healthcare practitioner. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
