Ignite. Circulate. Fortify.

Capsicum annuum is one of the most potent circulatory and metabolic tonics in traditional herbalism — a capsaicin-rich warming botanical that triggers internal heat, moves blood, stimulates digestion, and activates the body’s natural thermogenic response.

Why Cayenne Pepper?

  • Circulatory activator: Capsaicin triggers the body’s heat-sensing receptors, promoting efficient blood flow, dispelling internal coldness and stagnation, and is traditionally used to overcome poor circulation in the hands and feet.
  • Metabolic ignition: A classic thermogenic that naturally raises the body’s internal temperature, supporting a healthy metabolic rate, natural energy production, and the movement of fluids and metabolic waste.
  • Digestive catalyst: Stimulates gastric enzyme and juice secretion for efficient food breakdown and improved nutrient absorption — a foundational digestive tonic for sluggish or cold digestion.
  • Systemic enhancer: Vitamins A, C, and E provide antioxidant cardiovascular protection, while Cayenne’s blood-moving action amplifies the bioavailability of other botanicals when combined in herbal blends.

Traditional Benefits

Capsicum annuum has been a cornerstone of traditional wellness systems worldwide. Its therapeutic potency is defined by its ability to act as a "catalyst"—it is often used in herbalism to increase the bioavailability and "reach" of other herbs while providing profound benefits to the cardiovascular and digestive systems on its own.

Core Bioactive Markers:

  • Capsaicin: The primary bioactive compound. Capsaicin is a potent stimulant that triggers the body's heat-sensing receptors, leading to increased blood flow and metabolic activation.
  • Vitamins A, C, and E: Provide a robust profile of antioxidants that protect the cardiovascular system and support skin health.
  • Flavonoids: Support the strength and elasticity of blood vessels, contributing to overall circulatory resilience.

Key Physiological Properties:

  • Circulatory Stimulant: Traditionally used to help overcome coldness, poor circulation, and stagnation, particularly in the hands and feet.
  • Digestive Tonic: Stimulates the secretion of gastric juices, assisting in the efficient breakdown and assimilation of food.
  • Thermogenic Effect: Naturally raises the body’s internal temperature, which supports metabolic health and can help manage energy levels.
  • Systemic Catalyst: Because it moves blood so efficiently, it is often added to herbal blends to ensure the botanical properties are distributed effectively throughout the entire body.

How To Use

  • How to Use: Because it is incredibly potent, treat Cayenne with respect! A "pinch" is often all you need. Add a tiny amount to your morning lemon water, integrate it into a savoury digestive tonic, or use it as a culinary healer in your daily meals.
  • The Ritual: Best utilised as a "Vitality Ritual." Consuming Cayenne is an act of waking up. It is a moment to feel the sudden, warm rush of energy through your body, a reminder of your internal fire and your capacity for active, vibrant movement.

Safety & Precautions

• IMPORTANT: Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive membranes. Use very sparingly if you have a sensitive stomach or history of acid reflux.
• Not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
• Keep out of reach of children.
FAQs

Will this burn my stomach?

Used in small, professional doses, it is actually a digestive aid. If you are sensitive, start with the smallest possible pinch and observe how your body responds.

Is it only for winter?

It is wonderful in winter to stay warm, but it is equally helpful in the summer to encourage healthy perspiration and move lymphatic congestion!

Can I mix this with other herbs?

It is the ultimate enhancer. Adding a pinch to Turmeric or Ginger transforms a standard tea into a high-performance "Circulatory Power" blend.

HOW TO PREPARE YOUR HERBS

infusion

Infusion (The Gentle Extract)

Best For: Flowers, leaves, and aerial parts.
Method: Steeping in hot (not boiling) water.
Goal: Preserves delicate oils and nutrients.
Feel: Mild, aromatic, and nourishing.
Think of this as an elevated tea ritual. Because leaves and flowers are delicate, boiling them can damage their beneficial essential oils and volatile compounds.

The Method:
  • Pour hot (approx. 85°C–90°C) water over your herbs.
  • The Time: Cover and steep for 5–15 minutes. Covering is key—it prevents the plant's aromatic oils from escaping with the steam.
  • Best For: Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and delicate floral blends.

Cold infusions

Herbs best suited for cold infusions are those high in mucilage (like marshmallow root) or those with delicate, volatile oils (like peppermint and lemon balm). Steeping these in cold water overnight extracts their maximum benefits and flavours while preventing bitterness and preserving sensitive phytonutrients.

How to Prepare

Prep: Use a ratio of 1 tablespoon of dried herb (or 2 tablespoons fresh) per 1 cup of cold, filtered water.
Steep: Combine in a glass jar, cover tightly, and leave at room temperature or in the refrigerator for 6 to 12 hours (overnight is ideal).
Strain: Strain out the herbs thoroughly before drinking, warm water can be added to the drink if warm liquids is your preference. Do not heat in microwave.

decoction

Decoction (The Deep Extract)

Best For: Roots, bark, seeds, and woody stems.
Method: Simmering in water over heat.
Goal: Softens tough fibres to release compounds.
Feel: Concentrated, earthy, and potent.

How to Prepare (The "Simmer")

This is a more intensive process for tougher materials. Roots, barks, and woody seeds are "locked" behind dense cell walls; a simple soak isn't enough to get the goodness out.
The Method: Place your herbs in a pot with cold water. Slowly bring it to a gentle boil, then lower the heat and simmer.
The Time: Simmer for 15–20 minutes. Keep the lid on to maintain the potency.
Best For: Yellow Dock, White Willow Bark, Wild Yam, and woody roots or dense seeds.

Herbal Poultice

  • Place the recommended amount of dried herbs into a bowl.
  • Add just enough boiling water to moisten the herbs, creating a thick paste.
  • Allow the mixture to cool until it is comfortably warm (not hot enough to burn the skin).
  • Spread the herbs evenly onto a clean piece of muslin, gauze, or cotton cloth and fold the cloth over to enclose the herbs.
  • Apply the warm poultice directly to the affected area for 15–30 minutes, or as needed.
  • Remove the poultice and discard the used herbs. Prepare a fresh poultice for each application.

Helpful Tips
Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or infected areas unless advised by a qualified healthcare practitioner. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
